New pond in front of Angkor Wat
During the rainy season, a second pond has formed directly behind the one in front of Angkor Wat. The great thing is that you are almost alone there, because everyone runs to the front pond to see the sunrise – until dawn we had the pond to ourselves. As the rainy season progresses, the water rises so that the two ponds merge into one. So the window of opportunity for this natural spectacle is short-lived. And independently of this, the level lowers during the dry season, so that the second pond disappears again completely.
We are lucky and can enjoy the sunrise in idyllic peace. With a little image editing, it even looks as if the photos were taken at the original pond.
Extended validity for the Angkor Ticket
In addition to the number of visits, the validity for the 1-day ticket has now been increased to 5 days and for the 3-day ticket to 10 days. The ticket offer is valid until December 31, 2022.

Angkor Ticket online as PDF
On the Angkor Enterprise website, visitors can buy their ticket online. All you have to do is upload a photo, enter a few personal details and pay with your credit card. Practical: You can also order several tickets with one account.
The ticket for your visit to the Angkor temples is available as a PDF document. It is not necessary to print the PDF. I have tried it out. At all Angkor temples, it was enough to show the mobile phone with the ticket.
With the photo you might have to try a little bit until it is accepted by changing the size in the input mask. My daughter even photographed her photo from her passport and it was accepted. At the controls, the photo is compared with your face.
Free ticket for foreigners living in Cambodia
The announcement that foreigners living in Cambodia can apply for a free Angkor ticket is causing a stir at the moment. The ticket will allow them to visit Angkor as often as they like without having to pay entrance fees. This gives them a similar status to Cambodians, for whom entry to all Angkor temples is free.
The prerequisite is that you have lived in Cambodia for at least 2 years. According to the announcement, tickets will be available for purchase online on the Angkor Enterprise website from September 9th 2022. And indeed, it works. The new button “Special Pass” takes you directly to the registration form for the new ticket.
The first thing you need to do is create an account. Even if you already have an account for the regular Angkor Ticket.
In the next step, you enter your personal data and upload the required documents.
Info: When registering online, you will be informed that you can only order this ticket online. However, the official announcement also mentions the possibility that the ticket can be obtained at the counter.
Required documents:
- Passport
- Residence visa with a total duration of at least 2 years
- A 4×6 photo, which must not be older than 6 months
To make sure you are still worthwhile in Cambodia, this ticket must be renewed once a year.
Angkor tickets for a stay of at least 3 months in Cambodia
Regardless of this, the validity of the Angkor Ticket for people staying at least 3 months in Cambodia was adjusted a little while ago.
- USD 200 for 12 months
- USD 150 for 6 months
- USD 100 for 2 months
During the respective period, you can visit the Angkor temples as often as you like. This offer is also valid until December 31, 2022.
Return of the Gibbons in Angkor Park
As part of a joint programme of the Wildlife Alliance, the Forestry Department and the Apsara Authority, the first gibbon pair was released in the Angkor Archaeological Park in 2013. There are now a total of 4 released pairs and a total of 7 babies have been born.
Finding of an ancient statue
A team of archaeologists has discovered a large ancient statue in the city complex. It is believed to have once guarded an ancient hospital in the north of the city of Angkor Thom. The statue is almost 2 metres high and probably dates from the late 12th to 13th century.
