Arrival in Siem Reap
Siem Reap has an international airport, which has recently been approached directly from several destinations around the world. Usually there is a free transfer from airport to hotel or guest house.
Getting over Phnom Penh
The arrival on the airport of the capital Phnom Penh in the south of the country is a popular alternative.
By bus, minibus or taxi it goes on from there to Siem Reap. Here navigating the 316km long route may also like last times for 6 hours and longer. Because even if it is one of the main thoroughfares in Cambodia, the situation is not comparable to ours. There are, for example, locations where the road is paved. A general bus station there is not. Here is a selection of bus companies:

Getting over the Mekong River
Those who prefer to set out on the water to Siem Reap, selects the approximately 6-hour drive across the Mekong River at the price of U.S. $ 35 per person. Inside the boat there is because of the air conditioning usually so cool that even thicker clothes are appropriate. Up on the roof should be made in any case for adequate sun protection. The pier in Phnom Penh is located near the Psar Chas – Old Market.
The ride is impressive at the beginning and shows the life of people on the edge of the shore. Later it goes on across the Tonle Sap Lake. In the dry season – from November to May – it lasts a lot longer, because the lake then has partially very little Fahrwasswer and boats probably know this can get stuck. In Siem Reap, the dock is a few miles south at Chong Khneas. Many guesthouses and hotels offer a free transfer.
Getting over Bangkok
Many choose the arrival also over Bangkok because here the flights are usually cheaper. From Bangkok, it goes with the bus to the border crossing at Poipet. About this often selected option to enter there is the most fantastic stories. The fact is that tourists are constantly approached with seemingly great offers. Basically, change to another bus at the border. Rather than get into one of the buses on site, it is also worthwhile to organize the trip in advance through a tour operator on site. We have since, for example, very good experiences with Cambodia Travel made partner. Here also the Book of a minivan is possible to pick the one at the desired time at the hotel. At the border it says then again change, there waits already the second minibus to the traveler.
Since April 2013 there is a new direct connection between Bangkok and Siem Reap. For U.S. $ 38, including food for the journey and toilet on the bus travelers do not have to change trains at the border in another bus. One of the first opinions to be found at Coconut Bangkok – but only in English.
